Shaping 3D Forms in Knitting and Crochet

Instructors: Shanel Wu
Date: Monday, April 2 from 1-2:30 pm AND Wednesday, April 4 from 1-2:30 pm

Learn how to knit or crochet 3D forms with increase/decrease methods and some mathematical intuition. Participants should know the basics of knitting or crochet, and will learn basic shaping methods, work through and analyze a toy or doll pattern with multiple parts, learn about finishing techniques such as stuffing and embroidery, and start to plan an original design.

Documentation

Slides from both days, combined: <LINK>

Throughout the week, participants from both sessions continued their knitting and crocheting experiences. At the end of spring break, I photographed each piece that people had created. Continuing our explorations of notation and documentation in handcraft, every person wrote a description for their piece in response to my question, “How did you make this? How would you make a note to yourself?”
